DOD F-35 problems are on a galactic scale

So, right off the bat, when talking to our elected officials, the head of USAF F-35 integration, in the first paragraph of the introduction uses unsupportable claims, LM talking points and spin.

Not a lot of weapons clearance. This was watered down significantly since 2002-3. All kinds of things to get the gullible to sign up for the MOU. Even...HARM.

L--O--L.

Fuel-inerting as noted. Of interest here, the F-35B fuel system is different in this reqard to problem and solution. One is hardware fix, the other is a software hardware fix. Probably though software is also, always involved.

No mention that the aircraft is at high risk of getting killed vs. emerging threats.

SEAD? Against what? SA3,SA6, SA8?

ALIS is still high risk.

Support equipment availability. I find this disappointing since they have had years to be good-to-go in this regard.

The maintenance manning issue was totally avoidable. See my previous post on the Canadian 2009 brief and maintenance manning blue-sky fantasy. Also USAF has been letting maintainers go. Important seed-corn and tribal knowledge just let go. Totally avoidable. Also the idea that the A-10 community should help out in this regard is irresponsible.

EOTS won't be good until Block 4. The program is so old that the locked-in design requirement means that new external pods for 'legacy' aircraft are better. Not mentioned, the field of view for EOTS is limited. Good for interdiction missions. Not good for CAS. Legacy aircraft are yet again, a safer option for this mission.

Point 14. Information sharing. I have no sympathy here either. Just like the ejection safety issues, they have had years to get this sorted.

Scare-mongering over the budget. The DOD gets plenty of money. They also waste plenty of money. Example: 900-plus flag ranks and their comfort-castles.

Trying to explain away the F-16D encounter: weak. Note also that no one has been shouting from the rooftop lately on how DAS is just so great and situational awareness is not a problem.

Your camera phone captures a better quality image.

He harps on blue-sky marketing with Block 4. Well. We were told that Block 3 (the end of SDD) would give us a complete, combat-capable jet. Now he and his team are telling us it's shit.

If this jet goes into combat against a real opponent, it will get killed. And that is if there were not technical problems.

Especially because of this raft of poorly thought out assumptions on what the Joint Strike Fighter was supposed to offer.

Galactic stupidity.
